Eco Styler Gel v.s Smooth N Shine Curl Activator Gel

These are two products that I have tried for the past couple of weeks, Eco Styler and Smooth n Shine gel. I used both products on my two strand twist. I do not find interest in the Eco Styler gel; it is really sticky and leaves a residue once I wash it out. Plus it takes about four shampoos to get the stuff out. However once it’s dries it does leave my hair feeling soft.  I just recently tried the Smooth n Shine gel activator gel. I am in love with it. It leaves my hair REALLY soft and it is not sticky at all. It also does not leave a residue.

Eco styler gel has olive oil in it and I am not sure but I think this is the reason that I don’t like it. Usually products that have olive oil in them don’t really work well with my hair. To me it feels really heavy like grease and I never used grease not even when my hair was relaxed. I’ve just always hated how it felt.
The Smooth N Shine curl activator gel has aloe vera and glycerin inside of it. These are ingredients that help to define your curl while conditioning it at the same time. Even without my hair in twist I like the way this product defines my curls and makes my hair more manageable and gives it some moisture.  This product also gives me shine without looking and feeling greasy.
You can find Eco styler gel at any Sally’s or beauty supply store. Smooth n Shine is found at any walmart or beauty supply.  Also both products are alcohol free.
Now I have made my choice now make yours!

8th month Natural-versary

Hello, world! Today is my 8th month anniversary being natural. Let me first start off with saying what going or becoming natural is exactly. I went natural in May of 2010, which means that I cut all the relaxer/ straighter out of my hair. This is called the BC “The big chop”. Transitioning is totally different, it is when you are going natural but still have relaxer at the ends of your hair so you wait until you hair grows out long enough to cut the ends off. I think this is more of people thinking what others might say. Some people are scared that people may look at them the wrong way and criticize. Which I totally understand because that does happen, but you just have to be strong enough person.
I’m not going lie sometimes I love and I dislike being natural. It’s a lot at times, for instance not knowing what to do with your hair especially when you’ve had relaxers all your life. But I get by! I love it because it’s beautiful and soft…some people wouldn’t belief but when I flat iron my hair it gets straighter and softer than when it was relaxed.  But here’s the part I dislike. I hate when some of my old friends and even family ask me “Why you decide to go natural?” (in a sarcastic tone)…and says things like you look African (uh, I’m African American …duh!) or why you trying to be all pro-black? But I just ignore because it’s just complete ignorance. I love my natural hair, I love the look, feel, texture, color and curl. Whoever doesn’t…well I guess they will just have to deal with it… Happy 8th month Natural-versary.
In the words of Dr. King “ It is good hair and I accept my hair.”
